Abstract

Theoretical reflections from recent decades on literary canons' formation and the necessity of their reformulation arrived also in Italy. The reception of these ideas, however, seems to be particularly weak in that country, to the extent that we can say that these strategies, in general, failed to reach their objective. A more prudential attitude – if not an openly conservative one – in maintaining the traditional canons has triumphed. The main objective of this article will be to provide and problematize elements on canon renovation in Italy and to contribute to a discussion on the necessity of and the resistance to canon renovation.
